Job summary

Benchmark Electronics in Minnesota is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to drive manufacturability from design through production and lead Lean improvement efforts. You will partner with design, procurement and quality to ensure efficient, well‑organized manufacturing operations on a 24/7 global basis.

You will review drawings, support make/buy decisions, coordinate tooling and equipment needs, and mentor junior staff while delivering continuous improvements in process efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Supports a 24/7 global business operation as required
  • Lean Green Belt certification
  • Demonstrated ability to document and solve moderate to complex cross-functional challenges using structured problem solving tools
  • Good written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrates engineering level understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems or mechanical components and systems depending upon education and related experience background
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Attend design reviews and provide evaluations to ensure manufacturability and economical production methods
  • Review engineering drawings prior to Production Release for manufacturability and compatibility with state-of-the-art techniques
  • Assist in make/buy evaluations and make recommendations on in-house vs outside vendor capabilities
  • Assist in vendor surveys
  • Evaluate tooling, fixtures, and equipment needs to support manufacturing operations
  • Participate in MRB activities and disposition of discrepant material
  • Contribute to changes in design to ensure producibility within manufacturing capabilities
  • Provide manufacturing flow charts and floor layouts to optimize product flow
  • Lead Lean projects and activities such as 5S, TPM, and VSM
