Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes across the production line. You will be the magnet owner, accountable for shift performance, and collaborate with design, quality, supply chain, and production staff to drive efficiency and quality.

The role involves leading Lean/Six Sigma initiatives, developing tooling and fixtures, and guiding continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
  • Proficient in CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and manufacturing ERP systems.
  • Ability to balance autonomy with disciplined escalation.
  • Leadership through hands‑on engagement.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Make real-time decisions within established guardrails; escape when conditions fall outside defined limits.
  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and quality.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation including SOPs and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate with product design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance production performance.
  • Lead the design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment for efficient production.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct time and motion studies to determine optimal production methods and labor efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices across the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Evaluate new technologies and automation solutions to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
