Job summary

Skydio is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Design Engineer to bridge product development and production for advanced unmanned aircraft systems. You will guide manufacturing plans, process flows, tooling strategies, and readiness criteria from prototype through high-volume production.

The role emphasizes DFA feedback, process validation, and cross-functional collaboration with design, quality, supply chain, and test engineering to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Three+ years in manufacturing engineering, process development, NPI, or production engineering.
• Experience transitioning complex electromechanical products from development into production.
• Knowledge of DFA/DTA, process validation, tooling, and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience with structured problem-solving and corrective-action methods.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs, and GD&T.
• Experience analyzing manufacturing data to improve yield, cycle time, or cost.
• Strong written and verbal communication; capable of fast-paced work on evolving products.

Responsibilities

• Lead manufacturing activities for new drone products and major design changes from prototype through production launch.
• Develop manufacturing plans, process flows, workstation layouts, tooling, and readiness criteria.
• Provide feedback on design-for-manufacturing, assembly, test, automation, and serviceability.
• Coordinate prototype, engineering-validation, design-validation, and production-validation builds.
• Identify risks early and drive mitigation plans to closure.
• Create production tooling, fixtures, and semi-automated equipment.
• Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Support cross-functional teams across design, quality, and supply chain.
