Job summary

Pratt & Whitney seeks a Principal Controls Engineer, Manufacturing Automation to design, program, deploy, and support advanced automation used in aerospace manufacturing. The role is hands-on, taking automation concepts from development to production deployment with robot, PLC, and safety system expertise.

Responsibilities include leading the controls portion of projects, coding PLCs, optimizing robots, and collaborating with engineers and technicians to ensure reliable equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Experience in industrial automation and controls engineering.
• Ability to program and troubleshoot robot applications independently.
• Experience programming PLC-based control systems.
• Experience with major robot platforms (FANUC, ABB).
• Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, networks, motion control, safety, sensors.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and controls documentation.
• Experience taking automation projects from concept to production deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the controls portion of new automation projects from concept through deployment.
• Develop and maintain PLC programs, HMIs, motion-control systems, and safety systems.
• Program and optimize industrial robots for aerospace manufacturing applications.
• Integrate robots with PLCs, vision systems, sensors, and safety devices.
• Provide troubleshooting for controls, robotics, electrical, and software issues.
• Develop electrical/control system documentation and standards.
• Support equipment installation, validation, and startup at locations as needed.
