Job summary

American Shoe Machinery Company in Beverly, MA is seeking an experienced manual machinist for a temporary role with flexible scheduling. You will set up and operate Bridgeport mills, engine lathes, surface grinders, and other shop equipment to produce precision replacement components.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of manual machining, blueprint-reading ability, and a track record of maintaining close tolerances. CNC experience is a plus; welding and grinding skills are valued.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of manual machining experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Experience machining precision components to close tolerances.
• Welding and grinding experience is desired.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and commitment to quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual Bridgeport milling machines, engine lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and related shop equipment.
• Manufacture precision components from blueprints, drawings, samples, and verbal instructions.
• Maintain close tolerances and high quality standards in all parts produced.
• Select materials, tooling, and machining methods for each job.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments and ensure proper workmanship.
• Perform basic welding, grinding, fitting, and finishing as required.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop.
• Work with a small team to support varied, low-volume projects.
