Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Senior Manager/Senior Managing Engineer for our Thermal Sciences Practice in Menlo Park, CA. You will apply engineering and scientific techniques to real-world failure analysis, risk mitigation, and product development while growing client relationships and pursuing new business opportunities. In this role, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, perform analytical modeling and testing, and deliver written reports and proposals.

A Ph.D. or M.S.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field, with a practical and theoretical understanding of combustion, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
• 7+ years of relevant consulting experience in process safety, decarbonization, and/or fire protection engineering
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure, or ability to obtain a P.E. License
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to gather information from, and convey technical conclusions to, individuals in engineering, the legal profession, business and industry
• Proven track record conducting hazard identification and analysis studies and incident investigations via any recognized methodology

Responsibilities

• Conducting failure analysis and root cause analysis investigations
• Identifying and pursuing business development opportunities
• Managing multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with experts in other technical disciplines
• Project management and building client relationships
• Performing engineering calculations and analyses
• Performing laboratory experiments and analytical or computational modeling
• Planning and executing testing programs
• Preparing written reports, proposals, and presentations
• Domestic and international travel will likely be required
• Most assignments will require the ability to gather information from, and convey technical conclusions to, individuals in engineering, the legal profession, business and industry
