Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Payroll Leader to oversee global payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions. You will lead a team, govern payroll processes, and partner with Finance, HR, Tax, IT, and external advisors to ensure accurate filings and compliant remittances.

The role requires CPP certification preference, 10+ years in payroll, and strong experience with ADP and SAP. This position is based in Minnesota, with hybrid/work arrangements as applicable.

• 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including global operations.
• Minimum 2+ years in a supervisory/management role.

Job description

• Provide strategic oversight, governance, and operational excellence for payroll processes supporting employees across six countries and additional EOR-managed locations
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of payroll professionals
• Develop and execute payroll strategy aligned with organizational objectives
• Establish payroll governance standards, operating procedures, and performance reporting frameworks
• Lead payroll auditing, validation, approval, delivery, vendor governance, and end-to-end payroll controls
• Serve as primary contact for payroll tax issues and resolve complex matters with internal and external stakeholders
• Manage employment tax and internal/external audits
• Administer employment tax authorization registrations or closures, remittances, and reporting
• Analyze payroll metrics and trends to identify risks and support strategic decisions
• Govern outsourced payroll providers and manage vendor relationships and service levels
• Design and enforce controls against duplicate payments, fraud, and errors
• Monitor regulatory developments and ensure accurate filings, remittances, reconciliations, and year-end reporting
• Assess and remediate payroll process risks
• Manage payroll software and ERP systems such as ADP and SAP
• Lead automation, efficiency, system upgrade, and integration initiatives
• Maintain process documentation and standard operating procedures
• Partner with Finance, HR, Tax, IT, and external advisors on payroll policies, accounting, reporting, accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, and tax matters
• Serve as escalation point for vendor and stakeholder issues

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including global payroll operations in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment
• Minimum 2+ years in a supervisory/management role
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of payroll tax and employment regulations
• Knowledge of accounting, with a focus on payroll accounting
• Experience with internal controls aimed at reducing operational risk
• Experience mentoring and coaching a team
• Ability to research, identify, and resolve complex payroll issues
• Experience with ADP HR/Payroll/Time Reporting is a plus
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred
• Advanced knowledge of MS productivity tools, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Project Management mindset and experience
