Job summary

The California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco seeks a Senior Manager, Labor & Employee Relations to lead collective bargaining, policy development, and complex employee investigations, partnering with legal counsel and HR partners to advance organizational goals.

This hybrid role supervises a Senior Coordinator/Manager, designs ER analytics dashboards, and ensures compliance with FEHA, NLRA, FMLA/CFRA, and related laws while maintaining a respectful, high‑performing workplace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR, Labor Relations, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive labor and employee relations experience with CBA bargaining, union grievance management, Title VII investigations, policy audits, and ER analytics.
• Working knowledge of FEHA, NLRA, Title VII, FMLA/CFRA, ADA/FEHA, FLSA, and California Labor Code; proven leadership of at least one direct report.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
• Proactive, independent work style with strong initiative and the ability to manage a high-volume caseload.

Responsibilities

• Lead and co-lead CBA negotiations, including management proposals, costing analyses, and strategy development.
• Direct investigations and provide clear, well-reasoned findings; oversee escalation handling and case outcomes.
• Audit policies against federal and California law; drive remediation and policy improvements.
• Design and maintain ER analytics dashboards; analyze trends and present recommendations to leadership.
• Supervise the Labor & Employee Relations Senior Coordinator/Manager and collaborate with legal and HR partners.
