Selective Insurance in the United States is seeking a Manager, Complex Claims to lead a team of Complex Claims Specialists across multiple offices, including Short Hills, NJ. The role drives complex claims outcomes, adheres to policies, and delivers exceptional service to policyholders and agents.

Requirements include a college degree (Juris Doctor preferred), 10+ years claims experience, and 5+ years supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Leadership of a Complex Claims team with expertise in complex and severe general liability claims.
• Experience in litigation management and defending claims through trial or appeal.
• Knowledge of risk transfer, tenders of defense, and additional insureds.
• Strong analytical ability on coverage, liability and loss reserves, with good communication.
• Familiarity with relevant liability laws and claim handling time limits.

Responsibilities

• Plan, control and coordinate claims activity for optimal customer service and technical standards.
• Ensure timely settlement and maintain acceptable closing ratios.
• Prepare operating budgets and monitor expenses for the unit.
• Propose and implement claims process improvements in line with company guidelines.
• Maintain override capability and authorize settlements within limits; escalate larger claims.
• Oversee loss ratios, productivity and allocated expenses.
• Provide performance management and conduct reviews for staff.
• Lead claims reviews and settlement conferences; mediate disputes.
• Travel within territory with valid driver's license (0-10% travel).
