Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking a Manager, Complex Claims to lead a team of Complex Claims Specialists across multiple offices, including Scottsdale, AZ. The role focuses on directing claims workflow, ensuring timely settlements, and maintaining budgetary controls while upholding superior service to policyholders and agents.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in claims, 5+ years supervisory experience, a JD preferred, and strong knowledge of liability, coverage analysis, and risk transfer issues,

Qualifications

• Ability to lead a team of Complex Claims Specialists who are technically experienced in complex and severe general liability claims.
• Excellent people and management skills.
• Ability to analyze coverage, liability and damages, value claims and establish reserves.
• Extensive litigation management experience through trial and appeal.
• Knowledge of risk transfer issues and tenders of defense.

Responsibilities

• Plans, controls and coordinates claims activity and workflow to maintain high service and technical standards.
• Ensures timely settlement of claims and maintains acceptable closing ratios.
• Prepares operating budget for the unit and monitors expenses.
• Recommends procedural changes and implements them per company guidelines.
• Oversees authority limits and approves settlements within limits; escalates beyond authority as needed.
• Monitors loss ratios and productivity to stay aligned with company standards.
• Provides performance management for personnel and conducts reviews.
