Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking a Manager, Complex Claims to lead a team of Complex Claims Specialists across designated offices, including Charlotte, NC, with remote options for the right fit. You will drive outcomes, settlements, budgeting, and policy compliance while delivering superior service to policyholders and agents.

The role requires 10+ years in claims with 5+ years supervision, a college degree (JD preferred), and expert knowledge of general liability.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a complex claims team and managing complex/general liability claims.
• Strong people and management skills with strategic thinking.
• Experience in litigation management including trials and appeals.
• Knowledge of risk transfer and tenders of defense and additional insureds.
• Knowledge of general liability laws and related regulations.
• Proficiency with standard business software (MS Office).
• Ability to travel 0–10% with a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate claims activity to maintain high service standards and timely work output.
• Ensure timely settlements and maintain acceptable closing ratios.
• Prepare operating budgets and monitor department expenses.
• Recommend procedural changes and keep current with policy changes.
• Maintain override capability and authorize settlements within authority; escalate above limits.
• Oversee loss ratios and productivity to meet company standards.
• Provide performance management and conduct reviews for staff.
• Plan reviews and settlement conferences; mediate disputes as needed.
• Travel within territory as required (0–10%).
