Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—the world's most experienced driver—to improve access to mobility and save lives. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and is applicable to various vehicle platforms and use cases. It has provided over one million rider-only trips, driven tens of millions of miles on public roads, and conducted tens of billions of miles in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

At Waymo Insurance, you will work on the cutting edge of emerging risk issues surrounding our autonomous driving technology, helping to advance our business from ideation to scaled deployment. You will collaborate with legal, public policy, safety, security, and privacy experts to evaluate and manage risks, advise on insurance trends, and develop frameworks to support and protect users worldwide. You will also work with business development, product, strategy, and operations teams to align risk management with business goals, review contracts, and shape emerging laws and regulations at state and federal levels. Maintaining relationships with insurance and AV industry partners to anticipate and mitigate risks will be key.

This remote role reports to the Head of Claims & Insurance Operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping shape the future of insurance in an autonomous world
  • Providing oversight and guidance on claims related to insured products
  • Managing relationships with Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) to ensure a customer-focused experience
  • Contributing to the development of insurance and regulatory frameworks for Autonomous Vehicles
  • Supporting risk management and underwriting data collection activities
  • Enhancing safety through risk advisory efforts
  • Developing and implementing insurance processes aligned with Waymo's business models
  • Reviewing contracts and insurance deals
  • Providing insurance thought leadership within the team and company
  • Collaborating with internal teams, insurance companies, and vendors on insurance matters

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of insurance claim experience, preferably in Auto, GL, PL, WC, with 5+ years in claims leadership
  • Experience in creating and documenting processes
  • Ability to work independently and build a world-class team
  • Ability to obtain an insurance adjustor license if needed
  • Excellent communication skills for building consensus and managing relationships
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize high-impact work
  • Experience in high-growth environments and a passion for process innovation
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher; J.D. preferred

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with startups or insuretechs
  • JD or CPCU certifications

This is a remote position. The salary range is $196,000—$248,000 USD, with actual pay based on experience, location, and other factors. Employees are eligible for bonuses, equity, and benefits.
