Job Description

AXIS is seeking a Head of Financial Lines Claims, North America, to join our North America Claims team to support the expansion of AXIS' presence in the Financial Lines Market in North America. The successful candidate should possess the ability to lead and develop a sophisticated team of claims professionals handling a wide variety of claims, including Management Liability, EPL, Transactional, Crime, & Fiduciary claims for the United States & Bermuda, delivering excellent claims service and results.

This leader will develop the optimal target operating model using data-driven reporting and productivity metrics to deliver best-in-class service for AXIS clients and provide career paths for AXIS claim professionals to grow and develop. The role will also involve engaging with stakeholders, brokers, and insureds to ensure that AXIS's claims service is distinguished daily.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Direct supervision and management of claims including investigation, analysis, and evaluation of coverage liability and damages.
  2. Providing aggregate reporting on behalf of the North America Financial Lines Claims portfolio.
  3. Collaborating with the Global Markets Claims team on coverage disputes, litigation, and arbitration matters involving Axis issuing companies.
  4. Evaluating when to involve outside coverage counsel and managing such relationships.
  5. Formulating claims management strategies and managing outside defense counsel.
  6. Guiding claims teams and setting strategic directions for claims lifecycle.
  7. Managing costs related to coverage counsel and litigation, and working with the Claims Litigation & Vendor Management team.
  8. Collaborating across disciplines to identify trends and issues, and developing strategies for managing claims and ensuring consistent claims management practices.
  9. Supporting underwriting inquiries and providing data analysis and risk assessments.
  10. Coaching and mentoring team members, providing feedback, and supporting professional development.
  11. Recruiting, hiring, and developing talent, and planning for succession.
  12. Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders including brokers, insureds, attorneys, auditors, reinsurers, and vendors.
  13. Demonstrating AXIS values in daily activities.

Key skills and abilities include:

  • 7-10+ years of claims management experience, with leadership in relevant lines of business.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and management skills.
  • Reputation for technical excellence and leadership.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • Analytical skills and proficiency in data-driven decision making.
  • Understanding of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience handling diverse loss scenarios, including CAT exposures.
  • Law degree and bar admission are a plus.

This role involves travel for team management, broker and client meetings, conferences, and marketing activities.

Base salary: $225,000 - $275,000.
