Job summary

Douglas County is seeking an experienced emergency services leader to direct the Emergency Communications Center, ensuring reliable dispatch operations for six public-safety agencies across Nevada and California. The role provides strategic oversight, budget administration, and coordination with law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other partners.

It requires IAED certifications, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lead a diverse 24/7 team in a safety-sensitive environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, emergency management or related field and six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in emergency communications or public safety dispatch, including three (3) years of administrative or supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
• Valid Driver’s License
• IAED Certification in EFD, EMD, and EPD within six (6) months of date of employment
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within six (6) months of date of employment
• APCO Communications Training Officer Certification or equivalent within six (6) months of date of employment
• NCIC Certification
• NCJIS Certification
• NCMEC Certification
• ICS 300

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage the functions and activities of the emergency communications center; develop work rules and performance standards.
• Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other agencies; represent the center before boards and committees.
• Develop short- and long-range plans; oversee budget and ensure expenditures remain within allocations.
• Ensure adherence to IAED standards and participate in accreditation processes as needed.
