Job summary

American Water Co. is seeking a Sr Technician, Maintenance Services to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and process equipment across water and wastewater facilities.

You will work with limited supervision, applying technical judgment to resolve complex issues and ensuring safe, reliable operation. You will mentor entry-level technicians, support preventive maintenance, and help refine maintenance procedures and schedules while following lockout/tagout and electrical safety

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of progressive mechanical/industrial maintenance experience.
• Water/wastewater and/or utility experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, install, and commission pumps, blowers, motors, gearboxes, valves, chemical feed systems, mixers, screens, filters, and related instrumentation.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and process issues using drawings, P&IDs, manuals, and historical data.
• Perform advanced maintenance including precision alignment, bearing replacement, vibration assessment, and system optimization.
• Coordinate maintenance with operations to minimize downtime and ensure regulatory compliance.
