Job summary

ND Paper is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent to lead the safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution of mechanical maintenance in the Pulp Mill/Utilities Department at our Rumford, ME site. You will direct supervisors, planners, reliability personnel, and operators to maximize asset performance and support production and safety goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum 7–10 years of maintenance experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience supervising maintenance teams.
• Experience in pulp and paper manufacturing strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, conveyors, hydraulic systems, and process equipment.
• Experience with CMMS systems such as SAP.
• Strong understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, and reliability principles.
• Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate safety as a core value and actively promote a culture of zero injuries.
• Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
• Conduct regular safety observations, audits, and field engagement activities.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety performance and employee engagement.
• Lead and direct all mechanical maintenance activities within the Pulp Mill.
• Manage maintenance supervisors, planners, reliability personnel, and hourly maintenance employees.
• Ensure maintenance work is planned, scheduled, and executed safely and efficiently.
• Develop maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and reduce costs.
• Monitor maintenance performance metrics and implement improvement initiatives.
• Drive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles throughout the department.
• Support predictive and condition-based maintenance programs.
• Lead efforts to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment availability.
• Facilitate root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for significant equipment failures.
• Partner with Reliability Engineers to identify and implement long-term solutions.
• Lead planning and execution of major outages, shutdowns, and turnaround activities.
• Ensure outage work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Coordinate contractor resources and internal maintenance teams.
• Review lessons learned and implement improvements following outages.
• Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and maintenance personnel.
• Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
• Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
