Job summary

Symetra is seeking a Sr. Infrastructure Engineer I to join the Mainframe Pod within its Infrastructure & Operations team. The role focuses on daily mainframe operations, incident coordination, and driving modernization initiatives while partnering with application teams and our managed service provider.

You will lead incident and request handling, monitor ESP Scheduler workloads, support Endevor, CICS, DB2, MQ and COBOL, and contribute to architecture assessments and real-time integrations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated mainframe operations experience and ability to monitor systems.
• Experience coordinating incidents, problems, and changes across teams.

Responsibilities

• Act as a main contact for mainframe operations, overseeing daily health, stability, and performance of mainframe systems and tools.
• Bridge between application teams and the managed service provider to coordinate changes and upgrades.
• Manage Service Requests and Incidents with hands-on troubleshooting and escalation to service providers when needed.
• Monitor ESP Scheduler activities, including scheduling and troubleshooting of batch/workloads.
• Collaborate with app teams to optimize ESP calendars and dependencies.
• Coordinate mainframe upgrades with app teams and service provider to minimize risk/downtime.
• Provide support for Endevor, Terminal Emulator, and related tools.
• Support audit/compliance activities with proper documentation.
• Deliver architectural input and evaluate mainframe-related best practices.
• Support real-time integrations and web services connecting distributed platforms to the mainframe.
• Participate in modernization efforts to shift legacy workloads to more agile approaches.
