Job summary

M&T Bank is seeking a senior-level mainframe engineer to deliver secure, resilient enterprise solutions across modernization, delivery, and production support. You will partner with business, technology, QA, architecture, and operations to ensure outcomes align with enterprise SDLC, risk, regulatory, and technology standards while enhancing reliability and performance.

Responsibilities cover end-to-end life cycle from analysis to implementation, testing, deployment, and post-production support,

Qualifications

IBM z/OS mainframe app development with COBOL/CICS/JCL/DB2 for z/OS.
Deep batch and online processing expertise, including job streams and restartability.
Experience with DB2 SQL, data validation, reconciliation, and performance troubleshooting.
Proficient in SDLC/Agile delivery with Jira/Zephyr/ServiceNow usage.
Strong communication and collaboration across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

Own delivery of secure, resilient mainframe solutions across full lifecycle.
Translate requirements into quality changes for batch, online, and data-processing capabilities.
Troubleshoot application, batch, interface, data flow, and production issues.
Prepare specs, backout plans, support docs, and delivery estimates with risk ownership.
Apply SDLC, QA, and release readiness practices; manage CI/CD and deployments.
Support testing activities including UAT, production verification, and defect resolution.
Improve reliability via code quality, test coverage, and post-production validation.
Support modernization initiatives including API enablement and data integration.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor less experienced engineers.
