Job summary

HTC Global Services is seeking a Senior Mainframe Software Engineer to design, develop, test, maintain, and support COBOL-based applications on z/OS with CICS and JCL. The role emphasizes AI-assisted development and modern tooling to accelerate delivery and quality.

The position requires extensive mainframe experience, strong knowledge of COBOL, z/OS, CICS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and DB2/SQL, plus experience with REST APIs, testing, and Agile practices. Hybrid work arrangement preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
10+ years of IT experience.
8+ years of software development experience.
Experience with COBOL and mainframe systems.
Experience with z/OS.
Experience with CICS.
Experience with JCL.
Experience with TSO/ISPF.
Experience with IBM DB2 and SQL.
Experience with REST APIs and JSON.
Experience with software testing and application testing.
Experience with performance testing and root cause analysis.
Experience with batch processing and program analysis.
Experience with requirements analysis and application support.
Experience with Agile software development.
Experience with GitHub.
Experience with GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development.
Experience with prompt engineering, LLM API integration, and AI code review.

Responsibilities

Engage with customers to understand use cases and advocate for user-centric software solutions.
Design, develop, test, and deliver software solutions using appropriate tools and technologies.
Use AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar assistants.
Assess requirements and determine technology stacks, integration methods, and deployment strategies.
Create high-level software architecture designs outlining components and interfaces.
Collaborate with product owners, designers, and architects.
Define and implement software testing strategies and processes.
Continuously improve application performance and development efficiency.
Apply software development practices such as TDD, CI/CD.
Support security practices including encryption and anonymization.
Create user-friendly and interactive interfaces.
Develop and maintain back-end applications, APIs, and microservices.
Evaluate emerging technologies and capabilities for solutions.
Monitor and participate in new technology stack layers and industry collaboration.
