Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Mainframe Applications Developer to support critical enterprise applications. You will design, develop, and maintain mainframe systems using COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL, across batch and online processing.

The role emphasizes analysis, debugging, and collaboration with cross-functional teams while mentoring juniors. The role features hybrid work with 3 days/week in Morris Plains, NJ, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of hands-on COBOL development in a mainframe environment.
• Solid DB2 experience including SQL development, stored procedures, and tuning.
• In‑depth VSAM file structures and JCL for batch processing and job scheduling.
• Experience across both batch and online mainframe applications with CICS.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL.
• Analyze requirements and translate them into scalable mainframe solutions.
• Develop and support online transaction processing with CICS.
• Create, modify, and troubleshoot batch jobs and workflows using JCL.
• Design and optimize DB2 queries and data access components; perform debugging and root cause analysis.
