Job summary

Platt Richmond is seeking a senior-level Litigation Associate to join our growing practice. The role involves managing a broad range of commercial litigation matters in Texas and across the United States, including contract disputes, fraud, IP, defamation, real estate, creditor’s rights, class actions and other business disputes.

You will mentor junior associates and paralegals, draft motions and briefs, take depositions, and appear at hearings.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial litigation experience involving business disputes
  • Experience litigating in State and Federal Courts; creditor’s rights and appeals preferred but not required
  • Experience managing junior attorneys and paralegals without micromanagement
  • Strong skills drafting motions, including TROs, SJ, and discovery motions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail

  • Quaterback caseloads and assist in all facets of the litigation practice
  • Manage and delegate tasks to junior attorneys and paralegals
  • Take ownership of cases and drive progress without direction
  • Assist partners on a broad range of commercial litigation matters

Position Overview

Platt Richmond is seeking a senior-level Litigation Associate to join our growing practice. This role is designed for someone responsible for managing a broad range of commercial litigation matters both in Texas and across the country including contract, fraud, intellectual property, defamation, real estate, creditor’s rights, class action defense and other business disputes. This role requires a deep and varied knowledge of the litigation process in state and federal courts, substantial experience managing multiple team members with minimal oversight, and excellent base litigation skills including legal research, writing, strategy development, hearings, depositions, and trial preparation. This role will work with, and mentor, junior associate attorneys and paralegals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of cases and tasks to drive cases forward without direction
  • Assist partners on a broad range of commercial litigation cases
  • Prepare motions, discovery and legal briefs
  • Conduct legal due diligence, including fact checking and expert depositions
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of commercial litigation experience involving business disputes and causes of action
  • Experience litigating commercial disputes in both State and Federal Courts. Experience with creditor’s rights litigation and appeals are preferred but not required
  • Experience managing junior attorneys and paralegals without micromanagement
  • Strong experience drafting motions, including Temporary Restraining Orders, Motions for Summary Judgment, Pretrial Motions, and Motions relating to discovery disputes.
  • Extensive experience drafting and managing varied and tailored discovery over a wide variety of cases
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in projects, rather than a “finish the task and forget about it” approach
  • Excellent communication and grammatical skills, both verbal and written
  • Genuine, authentic personality
  • Team player; takes direction well; receptive to constructive feedback
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
