Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) seeks an experienced Sr. Linux Systems Engineer to support federal government IT operations.

You will administer, optimize, and secure Linux-based infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability across enterprise environments. Responsibilities include system administration, performance optimization, security, automation, patch management, and collaboration with application teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
• 8-10+ years of hands-on Linux systems administration across enterprise environments.
• Deep proficiency in Linux distributions (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
• Experience with scripting (Bash, Python, Perl) and CLI.
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Familiarity with virtualization (VMware, KVM, Hyper‑V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, firewalls).
• Certifications: RHCE, LPIC-2/LPIC-3 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, manage, and maintain Linux systems and related infrastructure.
• Monitor performance, perform capacity analysis, and address bottlenecks.
• Implement security measures and ensure compliance with security requirements.
• Troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and resolve complex problems.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline tasks.
• Perform software updates, patches, and upgrades with testing.
• Create and update system documentation of configurations and processes.
• Collaborate with application teams for system integration and maintenance.
• Drive scalability and efficiency of infrastructure.
