Job summary

IMC Trading in Illinois is seeking a Linux Engineer to design, operate, and scale a large Linux infrastructure across ultra-low latency and high-throughput workloads. You will apply deep Linux expertise and build automation using Python and Bash to improve reliability and self-service tooling.

You will own provisioning workflows, extend monitoring, and collaborate with teams to keep a globally distributed fleet performing at peak.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Linux systems engineering and provisioning at scale, preferably on bare-metal.
• Configuration management at scale on bare-metal servers with Puppet and Hiera.
• Python development for automation, APIs, design and debugging.
• Ansible playbook authoring and automation.
• RPM design, build, publishing, and in-house repository management.
• CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows and branching/merging best practices.
• Troubleshooting with EBPF, tcpdump, strace, systemd, ntp/ptp.
• Networking fundamentals: routing, DNS, TCP/UDP.
• Experience building and publishing Docker images.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, AlertManager.

Responsibilities

• Apply Linux engineering expertise to troubleshoot enterprise systems for stability and performance.
• Enhance configuration management code to manage 10,000 bare-metal Linux systems globally.
• Develop and maintain Python/Bash tools for large-scale Linux management.
• Improve provisioning workflows to build production-ready bare servers.
• Extend Linux-focused metrics, logging, monitoring, and alerts for fleet visibility.
• Communicate updates with peers and stakeholders via meetings, tickets, code reviews, chats and MR.
