Job summary

Bcore in Herndon, Virginia is seeking an Expert Linux Engineer to support mission-critical IT and DevSecOps efforts. You will work across large Linux environments (Red Hat, RockyOS) and drive automation, security, and infrastructure improvements for government and client systems.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree with 11+ years of related experience, strong scripting (BASH) skills, and hands-on Linux administration. Expect challenging O&M tasks and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree and 11+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Linux, including Red Hat derivatives (RHEL, RockyOS).
• Proficiency in shell (BASH) scripting and Linux command line.
• Experience providing Linux Administration (O&M) support and Linux Engineering infrastructure support.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, CloudFormation).

Responsibilities

• Perform systems engineering and software development in large enterprise Linux environments.
• Provide technical guidance in software engineering techniques and automated support tools.
• Develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate Linux system tasks.
• Ensure Linux systems meet security and compliance requirements.
• Prepare program- and user-level documentation.
• Assist in establishing standards for information systems procedures.
• Support customer in developing and maintaining system baselines.
• Assess server loads and work with leads to tune performance.
• O&M duties include pager/phone duty and routine updates.
