Job summary

Optum is seeking a Linux Platform Engineer to design, automate, and operate enterprise Linux environments and virtualization infrastructure at scale. You’ll implement platform automation, partner with Kubernetes and security teams, and support on-prem HPC-like compute resources across the enterprise.

The role emphasizes Red Hat Linux, KVM virtualization, Ansible, and IaC practices. Remote work is available from anywhere in the U.S.; in-office requirements apply to certain locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of Linux systems administration and engineering experience
• Solid experience deploying and supporting KVM virtualization environments
• Experience with Ansible automation and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies
• Experience implementing and supporting enterprise monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, AlertManager, and Thanos
• Solid experience automating infrastructure deployment, configuration, and operational processes using Ansible, scripting, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
• Experience administering Red Hat Identity Manager (IdM), including LDAP, Kerberos, SSSD, certificate management, and enterprise authentication services
• Experience with cross-datacenter, high availability failover, and load balancing (F5 & haproxy) between multiple datacenters and K8s clusters
• Deep expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Expert-level knowledge of Linux OS, SELinux, Linux firewalls, package management, and performance tuning
• Solid knowledge of storage, encryption, and Linux filesystem technologies
• Proficiency in shell scripting and at least one programming language such as Python, Go, Rust, Java, or C
• Proven excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Proven solid verbal and written communication skills
• Security-first mindset with platform hardening, IAM, vulnerability remediation, encryption, and regulatory compliance

Responsibilities

• Design, automate, and operate enterprise Linux and virtualization infrastructure
• Build and maintain automation solutions using Ansible, Python, and shell scripting
• Administer and maintain large-scale Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment
• Configure and support IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) storage environments
• Collaborate with Kubernetes, network, security, and application teams to deliver reliable infrastructure services
• Drive platform modernization through automation and standardization initiatives
• Troubleshoot complex OS, virtualization, networking, and storage issues
