Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Linux Infrastructure group to build and maintain a custom Linux kernel and related tooling. You will contribute to performance, reliability, and security, and work across distributed teams to integrate changes into the kernel.

You will port Akamai modifications to newer kernel versions, debug complex issues, and collaborate with hardware and testing teams while staying current with upstream developments and industry trends.

Qualifications

• 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in software development in C with a focus on Linux kernel development and scripting (Perl/Python/Shell).
• Solid understanding of Linux kernel internals and Linux kernel debugging.
• Familiar with memory management, filesystems, block IO, TCP/IP stack, and KVM subsystems.
• Strong knowledge of concurrent programming, data structures, algorithms, and network protocols.
• Self-starter, collaborative yet capable of working independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop new features to improve performance, reliability, and security of Akamai Cloud Platform.
• Port existing Akamai modifications to newer Linux kernel versions.
• Debug and fix issues in diverse test and production environments.
• Enhance build and test automation to enable Continuous Testing.
• Collaborate with platform, application, and hardware teams.
• Upsream work with open source communities to contribute changes.
• Stay current with upstream Linux kernel and OS changes.
