Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Linux Infrastructure team. You will help develop and maintain a custom Linux distribution and kernel enhancements that power Akamai's global cloud platform.

You will port modifications to newer kernel versions, debug complex production and test environments, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams. Strong C, scripting, and kernel debugging skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• 3+ years of software development in C with a focus on Linux kernel
• Solid understanding of Linux kernel internals and debugging
• Familiar with at least two subsystems: memory management, filesystems, block IO, TCP/IP, KVM
• Knowledge of concurrent programming, data structures, algorithms, and network protocols
• Self-starter who collaborates well but can work independently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Developing new features to improve performance, reliability, and security of Akamai Cloud Platform
• Porting existing Akamai modifications to newer versions of Linux kernel
• Debugging and fixing issues in test and production environments
• Enhancing build and test automation to enable Continuous Testing
• Collaborating with platform, application, and hardware teams and upstreaming work
• Staying current with upstream Linux kernel changes and industry trends
