Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join the Hardware, Infrastructure, and Virtualization (HIVE) team.

You will own Linux kernel, KVM/QEMU, and virtualization layers, advancing Linux internals and performance at scale. You will collaborate with global engineering teams to design, develop, and operate scalable infrastructure, automation, and observability tools, with on-call responsibilities and mentoring for the team.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
5+ years of experience in Linux internals and system administration.
Advanced experience with the Linux kernel, OS, KVM/QEMU, and nested virtualization.
Expert level experience designing, developing, and deploying software and infrastructure at scale.
Experience with large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

Develop, test, and distribute changes to software, services, and tools to enable hardware platforms delivered by the team.
Design and implement enhancements to observability infrastructure to identify and correct problems before they impact customers.
Develop subject matter expertise and mentor the team.
Identify and implement automation best practices for existing products and processes.
Collaborate with support, operations and engineering to investigate and troubleshoot complex problems.
Participate in on-call rotations, guiding restoration and repair of service-impacting issues.
