Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to lead secure Linux infrastructure for classified national security, scientific, and HPC environments. You will shape architecture, drive modernization, and mentor teams while delivering scalable, resilient solutions.

You will work across Red Hat and Ubuntu platforms, leverage Ansible, Python, and IaC to deliver secure systems, and collaborate with diverse mission teams to meet stringent cybersecurity requirements.

Qualifications

• BS degree in a technical field and 8+ years Linux systems engineering/administration experience.
• Current Top‑Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Advanced expertise in RHEL/Linux engineering, architecture, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with Ansible, Python, Bash, automation, and infrastructure‑as‑code practices.
• Experience designing or integrating enterprise virtualization, identity, storage, monitoring/logging, and cybersecurity capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical efforts and solve cross‑functional problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, engineering, and modernization of secure Linux infrastructure for classified environments.
• Architect, build, optimize, and sustain enterprise Linux platforms across physical/virtual environments and security domains.
• Lead automation and infra modernization using Ansible, Python, Bash, Git, and IaC practices.
• Design secure computing solutions aligned with RMF, NIST 800-53, STIGs, and ICD 503.
• Engineer Linux integration with AD, LDAP, Kerberos, PKI, VMware, and KVM.
• Serve as technical authority for Linux/infrastructure challenges and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Evaluate emerging technologies including HPC, AI/ML, GPUs, containers, and other advanced computing.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, networking, storage, and mission teams to translate requirements into secure solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and help establish standards/roadmaps.
• Support mission‑critical operations and after‑hours requirements.
