Job summary

UT-Battelle's Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a Linux Engineer to design and maintain secure Linux environments behind critical national security missions. You will own mission-critical accounts and work with a focused team under minimal supervision.

This role requires a TS clearance with Q/SCI eligibility, hands-on experience with RHEL, automation tooling, and cybersecurity compliance, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• BS degree in a related technical field and at least five years of Linux engineering or administration experience.
• Current Top-Secret clearance with Q and SCI eligibility.
• Demonstrated expertise with RHEL/Linux engineering, troubleshooting, performance tuning, automation, and scripting.
• Experience with Ansible, Python, Bash, enterprise virtualization, identity integration, storage, monitoring/logging, and cybersecurity compliance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently solve complex technical challenges and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and modernize secure Linux infrastructure supporting classified environments, primarily using RHEL.
• Design, build, configure, optimize, and sustain Linux platforms across multiple security domains.
• Develop automation using Ansible, Python, Bash, and Git for deployment, patching, and compliance.
• Implement cybersecurity requirements including RMF and NIST 800-53 with system hardening.
• Integrate Linux with AD, LDAP, Kerberos, PKI, VMware, and KVM for identity and virtualization.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and collaborate with cybersecurity, networking, storage, and mission teams.
• Evaluate new tech and approaches to advance infrastructure modernization.
• Support mission-critical operations and after-hours requirements.
