Job summary

Vultr is seeking a Senior Linux Administrator to handle challenging issues and support a growing global customer base. You will mentor junior staff, lead projects, and manage VM infrastructure, upgrades, and deployment across our server fleet.

The role emphasizes Linux expertise, scripting, and exposure to Kubernetes/Libvirt, Ceph, and related infrastructure technologies. Strong problem-solving and collaboration are essential in our fast-growing cloud environment.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of experience administering enterprise Linux environments (CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, or similar).
• Advanced knowledge of Linux system administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
• Proficiency in Bash, Python, or other scripting languages used for automation and infrastructure management.
• Experience deploying and managing virtualization platforms and containerized workloads, including Kubernetes and Libvirt.
• Familiarity with networking technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, and DNS.
• Experience configuring and supporting web servers, databases, caching solutions, and distributed storage platforms such as Ceph.
• Working knowledge of Cumulus Linux, PHP routing, and related infrastructure technologies is a plus.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex platform and customer-facing issues.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train Junior System Administrators to develop technical expertise and practices.
• Lead technical projects from planning through implementation, ensuring timely delivery.
• Manage incident response activities for escalated issues, coordinating resolution and communication.
• Perform setup, configuration, and ongoing management of internal infrastructure VMs and services.
• Plan, stage, and deploy platform upgrades across the server fleet.
• Provision and configure software on new nodes to support production and development environments.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for platform and customer issues.
• Install, configure, and commission servers by deploying OS, software, and services.
