Job summary

Norstella, a data-driven life sciences company, is seeking a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer to bridge domain expertise and AI development. You will curate fine-tuning datasets, define schemas, and work with scientists and engineers to shape model behavior.

You’ll design annotation guidelines, build end-to-end data pipelines, and maintain provenance and regulatory compliance. This role offers remote work in the US, cross-functional exposure, and opportunities to advance knowledge bases

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in production-grade life science datasets, including with AI-enabled applications.
• Experience working with structured publishing platforms and data tools; comfort with automation concepts.
• Experience working with and statistically analysing large and complex data sets, including data cleaning and preprocessing.
• Experience working with Generative AI, especially LLMs, including agents, throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Experience creating MCPs and consuming them into Agentic workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills, especially between technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex clinical, regulatory, and life sciences requirements into repeatable patterns for model training.
• Collaborate with SME and technical teams to shape model schemas and behavior.
• Design, build, and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs for end-to-end behavior.
• Author and maintain annotation guidelines to ensure consistency.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists and production needs.
• Train SMEs to run eval rounds and translate feedback to data improvements.
• Run iterative dataset experiments to close performance gaps.
• Maintain provenance, licensing, and compliance for all datasets.
