Job summary

Norstella, remote in the United States, seeks a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer to join a cross-functional team of data scientists, ML engineers and data engineers. You will curate high-quality fine-tuning datasets and define schemas, vocabulary and target behavior for predictive analytics across clients.

You will design annotation guidelines, maintain provenance, and contribute to Norstella’s knowledge base while collaborating with SME peers and production teams.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science or equivalent.
• 3+ years of professional experience in production-grade life science datasets.
• Experience with structured platforms and data tools; automation concepts.
• Experience with Generative AI, especially LLMs, across the SDLC.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex domain requirements into repeatable model patterns with SME collaboration.
• Develop methods and parameters of model behavior based on requirements.
• Design and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output examples.
• Author and maintain annotation guidelines to ensure consistency.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema with data scientists.
• Train SMEs to run eval rounds and translate feedback to tool improvements.
• Run dataset experiments and address model failures with targeted slices.
• Maintain provenance, licensing, and compliance for all datasets.
• Contribute to knowledge base and agentic workflows design.
• Explore proofs of concept for new domain capabilities.
