Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Life Sciences Knowledge Engineer to join a cross-functional team of data scientists, ML engineers and biopharma experts. You will curate high-quality fine-tuning datasets and define the task taxonomy and output schema to support predictive analytics across clients.

You will translate clinical and regulatory knowledge into model-ready patterns, shape the model’s vocabulary, and maintain provenance and compliance for datasets in a GxP-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree or equivalent in life sciences, medical sciences, computer science, or related field.
• 3+ years with production-grade life science datasets and AI-enabled applications.
• Experience with structured data tools, automation concepts, and large data sets.
• Experience with Generative AI and LLMs across the SDLC.
• Ability to create MCPs and integrate into Agentic workflows.
• Strong problem-solving and independent work ethic.
• Excellent communication across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate clinical and regulatory knowledge into repeatable model training patterns.
• Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model schema and behavior.
• Design and refine fine-tuning datasets with input/output pairs.
• Maintain annotation guidelines and dataset provenance and licensing.
• Define task taxonomy and output schema aligned with evaluation metrics.
• Train SMEs for eval rounds and translate feedback to tooling changes.
• Run dataset experiments and close gaps with targeted slices.
• Ensure data governance, GxP compliance, and IP standards.
• Contribute to knowledge base and ontology work for agentic workflows.
