Job summary

University of Connecticut's OVPR seeks an energetic Licensing Director for Physical Sciences to lead evaluation, patenting, marketing, and licensing of engineering and physical science technologies.

The role provides strategic oversight, mentorship of the licensing team, and active development of university-industry relationships to translate research into market impact, while supporting startup activity affiliated with UConn.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in the physical sciences, engineering, or related discipline.
• At least three years of direct technology licensing experience with major industry and startup partners.
• Experience with IP protection and patenting, including software and data licensing.
• Proven ability to lead licensing, research, and commercial negotiations with industry, academia, and government partners.
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Experience collaborating with startups and academic partners.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize faculty, staff, and students with technology transfer and value of commercialization.
• Evaluate invention disclosures for patentability and market potential.
• Develop and execute invention-specific marketing, patenting, and commercialization plans to attract licensees.
• License technologies and negotiate licensing deals with industry.
• Lead and mentor licensing team and support startup activity affiliated with the University.
• Build relationships with industry executives, investors, entrepreneurs, and researchers regionally and beyond.
• Collaborate with OVPR to advance Office goals.
