Responsibilities

  • Educate faculty, staff, and students about quantum tech transfer and IP processes.
  • Support review of invention disclosures in the physical sciences.
  • Assist in startup creation and venture program support.

  • Prepare marketing materials and outreach to promote university technologies.
  • Maintain records of invention disclosures, patent activities, and commercialization efforts.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Director of Licensing at the Technology Commercialization the Technology Transfer Licensing Associate Services, this position will work closely with the OVPR’s Technology Commercialization Services (TCS) technology office to evaluate and manage new inventions, licensing agreements, evaluate IP work with the patent council’s office, and lead discussions for transactions, filings, and contract negotiation. The successful candidate will be energetic, accessible, responsive, and possess the ability to foster collaboration in a dynamic organizational culture to facilitate the translation of quantum science and research to market.

The NSF Quantum Technologies Engine in Connecticut (QuantumCT Engine), led by the University of Connecticut, aims to advance American quantum innovation and secure the domestic quantum supply chain by accelerating the commercialization of quantum technologies for national defense, biotechnology and financial services. Through innovation, applied research leading to new technologies, support for inventors and entrepreneurs and workforce development, the QuantumCT Engine will advance quantum sensing, secured communications, computing, and materials through shared test bed, deep-tech incubator, and translation pathways.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in educating faculty, staff, and students about quantum and quantum-related technology transfer, including intellectual property, commercialization, and the innovation process.
  • Support senior staff in the review of invention disclosures in the physical sciences.
  • Assist in faculty and student startup creation and supporting venture program
  • Support the Quantum Accelerator program
  • Assist with preparing marketing materials and outreach efforts to help promote university technologies to potential industry partners.
  • Help maintain records and track invention disclosures, patent activities, and commercialization efforts.
  • Meet with faculty, researchers, and staff to gather information related to inventions and ongoing research activities.
  • Participate in team meetings related to patenting and commercialization decisions and help prepare materials for review.
  • Assist with patent-related activities by coordinating information and working with internal patent staff.
  • Support the preparation and processing of agreements such as confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, and other technology transfer documents.
  • Assist with building and maintaining relationships with industry partners, entrepreneurs, investors, and researchers.
  • Participate in programs and events that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic-industry collaboration.
  • Maintain databases and reports related to intellectual property, licensing, and commercialization efforts.
  • Coordinate with Program Manager for UIR program to establish technology translation and IP evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively with other OVPR staff to support departmental goals and initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in the physical sciences, engineering.
  • At least one year of experience in technology transfer.
  • In-depth knowledge of quantum, AI and Machine Learning applications.
  • Experience in laboratory work.
  • Experience working in an academic environment and ability to interact with faculty.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctoral degree in the physical sciences or engineering with some preference for those with expertise in electrical or computer science engineering.
  • Postdoctoral training in Engineering and Physical Sciences.
  • Between 2-3 years’ experience in technology transfer.
  • Combination of business and academic/R&D experience in engineering or physical sciences.
  • Experience working in an academic environment and ability to interact well with faculty.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The University offers a competitive salary, and outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.

This position is based at the Farmington (UConn Health) campus, and the successful candidate will be required to work on the campus and travel to the Storrs campus as needed. The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000. This position will be based at UConn for approximately two years and will then transfer to the Quantum-CT organization, which is the public-private partnership co-led by the University of Connecticut and Yale University.
