Job summary

Travelers is seeking a Senior Counsel to manage high-exposure insurance defense cases with independence, strong advocacy, and strategic client advisory. Qualifications

• 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney.
• Ability to try cases to a jury with a track record of favorable outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge of practice areas and ability to communicate complex information.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy skills with success in summary judgments or appeals.
• Knowledge of bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices and adversaries.
• Proven leadership, mentoring and collaboration with colleagues and clients.
• Strong negotiation, decision-making and prioritization skills.
• Flexible and agile mindset to take on evolving needs.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle a caseload of high-exposure cases and complex litigation.
• Leverage trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and produce persuasive writing and presentations.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other documents.
• Attend court events, depositions and other proceedings.
• Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to clients and partners.
• Collaborate with experts to develop case strategies and testimony.
• Manage relationships with clients and partners and mentor staff.
• Lead internal training and legal updates for insured clients and partners.
• Initiate special projects to support office goals.
• Utilize technology and case management systems effectively.
• Travel as required to meet business needs.
