Job summary

UCAS is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its Finance and Corporate Services team in a hybrid role based in the South West region. The role focuses on strategic legal advice, major procurement projects, and data governance across a wide range of contracts.

You will draft and negotiate important commercial agreements, manage risks, and support junior colleagues while contributing to UCAS's governance objectives and legal strategy.

Qualifications

• Significant experience of providing legal advice on complex commercial contracts or data governance issues.
• Significant post-qualification experience in-house or private practice.
• Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret contract/data protection terms and identify risks.

Responsibilities

• Deliver legal services to support UCAS' activities efficiently.
• Build trusted relationships with stakeholders and advise on strategic, commercial and risk issues.
• Provide strategic legal input on major procurement projects.
• Draft, negotiate and advise on key commercial contracts with suppliers and partners.
• Analyse contract terms and recommend risk mitigations.
• Maintain and develop contract templates, guidance, and standards.
• Advise on data governance matters including data quality and retention.
