Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a Senior Leave Associate in the United States to manage the full lifecycle of leave and accommodation cases from intake through return to work.

You will partner with vendors, support employees and managers, and ensure compliance with federal and state laws. The role reports to the Director, Global Benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Admin, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 3–5 years of progressive leave administration experience, with FMLA/ADA/ADAAA expertise.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local leave laws and regulations.
• Experience interpreting documentation and applying policies to determine next steps.
• Experience using HR systems and case management tools such as Workday and ADP.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end leave and accommodation cases from intake through return to work.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure compliant decisions.
• Serve as primary point of contact for employees and managers with updates and guidance.
• Escalate complex cases to Legal or HR leadership as needed.
• Analyze leave data, prepare reports, and recommend program improvements.
• Monitor for potential leave misuse and maintain program integrity.
• Coordinate with Payroll, Legal, HR Ops, and AskHR on leave-related work.
• Oversee vendor performance and address service concerns.
• Stay current on leave laws and industry trends.
• Use AI responsibly to summarize case info while protecting confidentiality.
