Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. seeks an Assistant Vice President for Real Estate Development & Construction in the San Francisco Bay Area.

You will lead planning, budgeting, and execution of high‑impact life science projects, coordinating cross‑functional teams from design through tenant occupancy and close-out. The role emphasizes managing complex projects, aligning with budgets and schedules, and fostering strong relationships with tenants, regulators, and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive real estate development/construction experience.
• Experience delivering ground-up development of laboratory or life science facilities.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts and documentation.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with leadership, tenants, regulators.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of complex development and construction projects from planning through close-out.
• Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and milestones with updates to regional leadership.
• Drive projects to completion within approved budgets, schedules, and standards.
• Navigate entitlement, permitting, and development requirements with regulatory agencies.
• Manage tenant and company obligations in lease and work letters for projects.
• Serve as primary contact for tenants, maintaining high service and communication levels.
• Lead cross-functional teams of tenants, contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants.
• Oversee third-party development/CM consultants and contractors as needed.
• Identify and resolve project risks to support tenant occupancy and rent commencement.
• Oversee payments, invoices, and contract compliance; maintain project files.
• Coordinate with internal teams to align with company standards and objectives.
• Support lease negotiations with development and construction input on scope, cost, and timelines.
• Prepare clear project status, budget, schedule, and performance reports for leadership.
