Job summary

WSP is seeking an ESSP Senior Lead Protection Engineer to join its power delivery practice. The role involves design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for bulk power equipment across substations, transmission lines, and generators.

The successful candidate will lead client projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with SCADA and protection teams. Travel to project sites is possible; a PE license is preferred or obtainable.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
12+ years of relevant post-education experience in Protective Relaying for power generation, transmission, and distribution.
Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to policies.

Responsibilities

Design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for bulk power equipment including substations and transmission lines.
Lead projects and teams to meet scope, schedule, and budget; provide technical guidance and mentorship.
Develop protective relaying analyses: short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, and NERC compliance.
Coordinate data collection during site visits and discuss project specifics with clients at technical levels.
Apply industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, NERC) to protection practices.
