Job summary

WSP is seeking an ESSP Senior Lead Protection Engineer to advance our protection design practice across U.S. offices, including Charlotte.

You will lead protective relaying studies, relay settings, and coordination analyses for substation, transmission, and generation projects, delivering robust protection schemes. You will mentor junior engineers, interface with clients, ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NERC PRC standards, and leverage tools such as AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, ETAP,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
• 12+ years of post-education experience in protective relaying for power generation, transmission, and distribution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Proven track record of safety and compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

• Protective Relaying: analysis, philosophy development, relay settings, SCADA integration.
• Protection Analyses: short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, event analysis.
• Leadership: lead client projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Data Acquisition: occasional onsite data collection and technical client discussions.
• Industry Standards: awareness of IEEE/ANSI/NERC PRC standards.
• Organized: manage multiple project schedules and priorities.
• Applicable software: ACSELerator Quickset, GEEnervista, ASPENOneliner, CAPE, SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD.
• Applicable hardware: SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, Beckwith, RTDS.
