Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a lead level field claims adjuster for complex homeowner property claims in the Mid-Atlantic region. The role involves 80% field work (4+ days/week) with travel to office locations for meetings or trainings as needed, and a reporting line to the Large Loss Senior Manager.

Ideal candidates bring extensive Xactimate experience, 5+ years in field property claims, and the ability to handle high-exposure losses.

Qualifications

• Advanced Xactimate experience required.
• 5+ years' experience handling field property personal lines claims.
• Prefer someone with experience handling claims over $50,000.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Investigate origin and cause of high exposure claims by contacting insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors and other parties.
• Participate in High Damage Reviews (HDR) to address coverage issues and exposure.
• Handle both 1st party and 3rd party claims under multiple policy types and endorsements.
• Conduct on-site inspections when needed, evaluate damages and negotiate with insureds, claimants and attorneys.
• Respond to customer inquiries, make decisions and close files.
• Interpret policies, leases, by-laws, declarations and coverages for assigned losses.
• Make independent decisions but know when to escalate for assistance.
• Provide all parties with claim process updates and status.
