The City of Raleigh seeks a Senior Landscaping Maintenance Technician to operate heavy equipment for landscaping and maintenance tasks. The City of Raleigh is seeking a Senior Landscaping Maintenance Technician to join our Transportation Department. This role will operate various types of heavy equipment for landscape maintenance, including A-Boom and knuckleboom loaders; assist with planting flowers, trees, and shrubs; operate automated leaf trucks or dump trucks with walk-behind leaf machines during leaf collection; operate snow and ice removal equipment; and operate anti-icing equipment. Other street maintenance duties may be assigned as needed. You will be responsible for using Cityworks to create, update, and close service requests and work orders, as well as recording data with Quick Capture and other programs.
About You:
If you are our candidate, you will have experience in construction methods and materials, basic construction safety, and be capable of leading by example and earning respect from coworkers. As you develop in this role, you will operate a range of haul vehicles, including flatbed and dump trucks, as well as construction equipment such as knuckleboom loaders and A-Boom loaders. Your expertise will extend to special function equipment, such as automated and walk-behind leaf collection trucks, and snow and ice removal equipment. You will maintain grounds including trees and shrubs through mowing, fertilizing, trimming, and pruning, including medians along major thoroughfares and I-440. Responsibilities also include operating dump trucks with snow removal equipment during inclement weather, performing routine maintenance on grounds equipment, maintaining records and reports, recording daily activities in Cityworks, and contributing to street maintenance activities. Extended hours on rotating shifts during leaf collection, emergencies, and weather events are required.

Joining our Transportation Maintenance Division offers an exciting opportunity to maintain critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curbs, gutters, asphalt, and storm drains. Our 218-person team maintains 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks, over 33,000 curb ramps, and 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes connecting more than 32,000 drainage inlets.
The Transportation Landscape Maintenance Unit maintains medians and rights-of-way by trimming trees, bushes, and grass, and planting seasonally.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and three years of relevant equipment operation/driving or maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
