Salt Lake County is seeking a Landfill Supervisor to oversee daily operations at the landfill, including staff supervision, scheduling, and ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and permit adherence.

The role includes coordinating equipment and building maintenance, managing budgets, preparing reports, training staff, and ensuring proper waste handling, recycling procedures, and disaster readiness.

Qualifications

• Seven (7) years of related experience, of which one (1) year must have been supervisory.
• Stormwater certification at time of hire or within 90 days of hire.
• Valid Class A CDL accepted by the State of Utah within 6 months of hire. Must possess a current UDOT Medical Card.
• Must pass a verified negative drug test before starting; subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
• Background check via fingerprinting and enrollment in RAP Back per County policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervises staff including hiring, training, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
• Analyzes operational needs and develops objectives and procedures for improvement.
• Manages staffing, equipment, and resources for daily operations.
• Ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, environmental, and permit requirements.
• Oversees maintenance of equipment and facilities; recommends replacements.
• Maintains recycling procedures and contributes to budget monitoring and reporting.
• Prepares reports and ensures continuity of operations in emergencies.
• Performs landfill and compost duties as needed when staff are short.
