Job summary

The American Red Cross in Chicago is seeking an IRL Technologist to perform donor and patient testing and interpret results for donor-recipient compatibility.

You will resolve compatibility problems and provide intermediate reference services to hospitals and transfusion services, while ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations. This full-time role offers a competitive hourly salary and a robust benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry is required.
• MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification is required.
• Minimum 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Responsibilities

• Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities to resolve complex serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
• Manage receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples; assist in daily workflow of patient and donor work; document supply and equipment problems.
• Manage reagent inventory including ordering, receiving, inspecting and preparing reagents; perform and interpret donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete quality control as required by regulations.
• Recognize testing irregularities, identify causes, determine solutions and resolve problems; assist in problem resolution; maintain and review records for accuracy and completeness.
• Perform maintenance, repair and validation of laboratory equipment and software; assume lead responsibilities such as record review and training.
