Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a skilled IRL Technologist to perform donor and patient testing, interpret results, and ensure donor-recipient compatibility. You will resolve complex serologic issues and support hospitals with reference services.

Responsibilities include automated/manual testing, specimen handling, reagent inventory, and collaboration with medical facilities. Requires MT (ASCP) and a biology/chemistry degree, with state licensure if needed.

Qualifications

  • MT (ASCP) certification required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or Chemistry.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience or equivalent education/experience; MLT (ASCP) with 4 years lab experience can substitute.
  • Licence if required by state.
  • Good written and verbal communication to interact with internal/external customers.
  • Ability to work on a team.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve compatibility problems and provide reference/consultation to hospitals and transfusion services.
  • Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
  • Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor samples; document issues.
  • Manage reagent inventory (ordering, receiving, inspection, preparation).
  • Recognize/resolve testing irregularities and assist other technologists.
  • Consult with staff at other medical facilities to resolve complex serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
  • Perform manufacturing duties for special blood products, if applicable.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.
