Job summary

The American Red Cross in St. Louis, MO is seeking an IRL Technologist to perform donor and patient testing and interpret results for donor-recipient compatibility.

You will resolve compatibility problems, provide reference and consultation to hospitals, and perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples. Responsibilities include managing specimen logistics, reagent inventory, and assisting other technologists with complex serologic issues.

Qualifications

• MT(ASCP) certification is required.
• Bachelor's degree in biological science or chemistry.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• MLT (ASCP) certification with 5 years blood banking experience can be substituted.
• State license may be required where applicable.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Resolving compatibility problems, and providing complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services.
• Performing automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
• Managing receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples and documenting supply and equipment problems.
• Managing reagent inventory (ordering, receiving, inspection and preparation).
• Recognizing/resolving testing irregularities and assisting other Medical Technologists in problem resolution.
• Consulting with staff at other medical facilities, to resolve complex serologic problems and providing special units to transfusion recipients.
• Performing manufacturing duties associated with special blood products, if applicable.
