Position Summary

The Senior Lab Technician is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the water treatment laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, and maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. This role involves managing lab resources and coordinating customer projects. The Senior Lab Technician will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support new product development, process innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations:
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including scheduling, workflow management, and resource allocation.
    • Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted in compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Train other technicians, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Ensure proper onboarding and training for new lab personnel.
  • Customer Project Coordination:
    • Coordinate and manage customer projects, including new product development, formulation, testing, and validation activities.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, quality, production) to ensure alignment and support for customer initiatives.
    • Track project progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports for management review.
  • Quality Control and Compliance:
    • Monitor and enforce compliance with all relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes and activities.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits; address any identified non-conformities or hazards promptly.
  • Inventory and Resource Management:
    • Manage inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, and reagents; ensure timely ordering and availability of critical materials.
    • Maintain accurate records of laboratory expenses and manage the lab budget effectively.
    • Oversee proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, metallurgy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting, experience in a supervisory or leadership role, a plus.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, techniques, and safety protocols.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and quality systems (e.g., ISO, GMP, GLP).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in laboratory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skilled in technical writing of laboratory test results, including documentation of testing procedures and the development of new test protocols for NSF certification.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience within the manufacturing or water-treatment industry.
  • Certification in laboratory management or safety.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and ability to adjust focus.
