NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is seeking a Senior Lab Assistant - Per Diem to support day-to-day laboratory operations. You will assist lab staff with specimen management, accessioning, instrument maintenance, and communication with providers and other laboratories.

The role requires a high school diploma with biology/chemistry coursework, lab experience, and proficiency in Excel/Word. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for success in this per diem position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with biology/chemistry credits; laboratory experience desired.
• Computer skills with Excel and Word are required.
• Effective communication with team and providers is essential.

Responsibilities

• Screen and accession specimens in the LIS.
• Maintain supplies and communicate replenishment needs.
• Receive, document, and store laboratory materials per policy.
• Ensure specimen quality and proper handling from collection to processing.
• Prepare samples for analysis (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport).
• Process samples for storage and disposal per policy.
• Dispose of hazardous waste following procedures.
• Maintain logs for temperature and humidity of equipment and areas.
• Answer calls and provide test availability and status information.
• Access automated test platforms to monitor sample status.
• Assist with blood product handling including irradiation or thawing.
